Mushrooms
A vegetable that seems to be a "love it or hate it" kind of food, mushrooms have gained ground in recent years as the benefits of Beta Glucans, a compound commonly found in mushrooms, has become more widely recognized.

The mushroom is a perfect example of how we can approach skin care from both a nutritional and a product-use standpoint. Eating mushrooms provides us with a healthy dose of not only Beta Glucans, but also Panthothinic Acid, Riboflavin, Niacin, Selenium, Copper, Potassium, and a lesser-tauted antioxidant called Ergotheonine. And, you will find many of these nutrients in skin care products, for good reason. 
 

The Value Of Mushrooms
When you see the term "antioxidant"used to describe a nutrient, it means that it has considerable power to help the body fight off cancer cells. As I mentioned above, mushrooms naturally contain Ergotheonine, a very beneficial antioxidant.

Two of the ways that this happens is 1) the nutrient assists the body in creating healthier new cells that are stronger and so they make for a stronger body 2) the nutrient fights off free radicals found in our everyday environment such as pollution, smoke, residue from overuse of chemicals, and UV rays. 

Note that by creating healthier cells within the body, that automatically means a healthier complexion, hair, nails, you name it. 
 

How To Enjoy Mushrooms
Sometimes it’s the flavor, sometimes it’s the texture, and sometimes it’s both. But whatever the reason you have for avoiding mushrooms, there’s bound to be a way for you to enjoy them enough to eat them at least a few times per week. 

Chop mushrooms and add to your blender or food processor with a bit olive oil.  Make a puree that you can add to sauces and soups, or combine with onions and garlic to use as a topping for steaks, chops and roasts.

If you like mushrooms, toss sliced, fresh mushrooms into a salad, on a sandwich, or on a steak or chop.  They pair very well with onions and most any fresh herbs.  

Whatever way you eat them, mushrooms are worth the effort!
